Project Proposal

Julie Malinsky's Term Project Proposal
Title: Denver Space; A poetic visual representation of interactions

Abstract: A mapping application will guide users to input points on a map of Denver according to the places they frequent and lines of travel to arrive there. The points will be divided into different colors based on categories of home, work, and leisure. The lines will be color coded according to neighborhood of origin. Eventually enough people will input their information and paths on the map and patterns of possible and actualized interaction will emerge.

Audience: The map is intended for neighborhood residents in order to see the possible places one could be missing in the neighborhood as well as possible encounters with others along frequented places and paths.

Data:
A base map of Denver taken from google will serve as an locational identifier
Open Layers data concerning the laying over of point and lines
Input data from neighborhood residents, I plan to take this to my neighborhood association meeting in Athmar Park

Interface Design: When you arrive at the website a map will be displayed immediately with a panel at the left hand side with instructions on how to add information to the map. There will be icons of the three points so a user could choose the appropriate color and add a point onto the map in that color. The line features will also be listed with different colors based on the neighborhood of origin with a similar methodology. There will also be a feature to remove points to correct mistakes.

Technologies:
www.sanoodi.com : This a simple mapping application where users upload pathways
http://www.aworldofnirvana.com/ : This map enables videos and pictures attached to a place which I would eventually like to do.
http://www.ghostlogs.com/news.php : This map also attaches information to points which is what I would eventually like to do.
